2019 LA Rams training camp: July 28 practice recap – Turf Show Times

Injuries

Heading into training camp, Los Angeles Rams HC Sean McVay and RB Todd Gurley had insinuated that Gurley would indeed be getting more rest this year than in years past.

On Day 2 of camp, they made that a reality by giving Gurley the day off.

There’s not a ton to read into it beyond what we already know.

Gurley’s knee is going to require a more proactive approach to lessen the load on it over the next six months, and there’s no reason that shouldn’t start now. Veterans like LT Andrew Whitworth, C John Sullivan and LB Connor Barwin had operated on lightened practice schedules in years past. Perhaps some are alarmed that Gurley is on a load management plan after four seasons at just 24-years old while a guy like Big Whit has 13 seasons under his 37-year old belt, but those that are should have been alarmed back in the postseason when what we know now became apparent regarding Todd’s knee.

Other than that, the big news was the lack of news on the injury front. Now we head into Day 3 which is the peak of the training camp onboarding period where initial dehydration and fatigue levels set in. Fingers crossed.

Offense

Defense

One thing I did notice today is the Cycle starting to pick up.

Bear in mind the balance. It’s a 90-man roster that has to get down to 53, and play caliber level isn’t gauged on training camp or the preseason. It’s based on the regular season and playoffs.

That being said, another day without injuries and some good work in.

Two more days of camp at UC Irvine before a joint practice on Thursday with the Los Angeles Chargers at their place.
