The first wave of free agency is in the books, and while the Los Angeles Rams didn’t pounce on any big-name players last week, they have shown a bit of interest in some of the guys still on the market. Signing someone like Ndamukong Suh or Terrelle Pryor – both of whom they’ve been linked to – would change the Rams’ draft plans, but neither would fill the team’s biggest needs.

To fill those holes, we ran through a four-round mock draft using FanSpeak’s On the Clock simulator. In it, we address the voids at inside and outside linebacker, as well as a pair of intriguing prospects at nose tackle and wideout.

Let’s get to the picks:

Vander Esch isn’t a name consistently linked to the Rams, but his stock is certainly on the rise after his combine performance last month. He ran a 4.65 40-yard dash at 6-foot-4, 256 pounds, which is a great time for someone with his size. He was also among the top performers at linebacker in the three-cone drill (6.88 seconds), 20-yard shuttle (4.15) and 40-yard shuttle (11.57).

There’s no denying his athleticism as he’s one of the most intriguing linebackers in the draft, boasting great size and length for the position. Where there are some concerns are his experience and shed blocks. Those go hand in hand as he’s still learning the position after starting just one season for the Broncos.

In the Rams’ defense, he’d fit perfectly next to Mark Barron as a Sam linebacker. Wade Phillips will help him develop into a great starter who can run, hit and drop into coverage.
