The Los Angeles Rams had a rough practice a couple days after getting embarrassed 33-7 by the Baltimore Ravens. Sure, they got in late after a long flight from coast to coast – but Sean McVay wasn’t having any of the excuses.
Sean Mannion’s struggles continued and it seems like the coaching staff is taking some extra time to make sure he can figure his issues out.
The finish was better than the start, but overall Sean McVay was not happy with today’s practice, which was not in pads and featured mostly ones vs ones and twos vs twos. He spoke with team for a few minutes afterward. pic.twitter.com/LHSppqla6h

Long conversation between #Rams coach Sean McVay and Sean Mannion on sideline after Mannion threw a ball away far out of bounds in an 11 on 11 drill. McVay was using big video board replay to point something out to Mannion on opposite side of field from direction he threw

The offense had a rough day and from the sounds of it, McVay gave the players a piece of his mind.
#Rams Sean McVay not real happy about today’s practice. And delivered that message to team afterward. McVay said some veterans had some things to say to teammates about being better, fighting through stuff and maximizing every chance to get on field and practice.

My obvervation of #Rams Sean McVay & today’s practice: He could have easily cut players slack given circumstances of their 4 am return yesterday from east coast & hour+ bus ride to Irvine. But he wasn’t about to let them off easy. No room for easy excuses in this world.

On the positive side of things, there is more optimism surrounding the Aaron Donald.
Sean McVay said there has been “increased dialogue” with Aaron Donald’s reps and is optimistic situation will be resolved.

Here is #Rams Sean McVay explaining his misgivings about today’s practice: “We don’t get enough opportunities to get out here and practice and we’ve got to maximize every single one. Today is going to be a good chance to look back at this tape and find a way to get better.”

#Rams Sean McVay on TE Gerald Everett, whose left arm was in a sling: “Nothing new. He just got his shoulder deal where we’re being smart with it. He’s going to be out another week or so at least.”

Overall, the Rams preseason isn’t off to the start that everyone hoped. The expectations are higher than they’ve been since the early 2000’s. It’s only the first week of the preseason so we shouldn’t over-react, but if we are…. it seems like those expectations and other issues (Read: the AD situation) may be hindering the growth of this rendition of the Rams.
