And away we go.
Day 1 of the Los Angeles Rams’ 2019 training camp is in the books.
Here’s how things look from the three major aspects:
Injuries
Day 1 was more about the guys back healthy. Despite playing in Super Bowl LIII, the drama down the stretch for RB Just Todd Gurley and his knee meant that Gurley’s first carry was always going to entertain a feeling of confidence. We won’t really learn anything about it or the balance of work to be doled out between Gurley, rookie RB Darrell Henderson and perhaps reserve RB Malcolm Brown until Week 1 of the regular season when the Rams travel to take on the Carolina Panthers. Still, it was good to see JTG tote the rock. As I write this, McVay noted after practice there would be days ahead where Gurley doesn’t practice much like how they’ve treated LT Andrew Whitworth, C John Sullivan and OLB Connor Barwin in years past.
Similarly, it was the first full return to work for WR Cooper Kupp who tore his ACL against the Seattle Seahawks in November of last year. Just like Gurley, seeing Kupp in action does the heart good.
Offense
Not of ton of import, but this nugget was certainly interesting:
Not gonna let myself read too much into Day 1 of training camp, but whew…
Defense
Not a ton of note today. CB Aqib Talib did get the better of QB Jared Goff at one point:
Aqib Talib picks off Jared Goff during 7-on-7s. Crowd loves it. #RamsCamp

Back at it tomorrow. Same time, same place.
