Welcome to SB Nation FanPulse — a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the offseason, we send 32 polls to plugged in fans from each team. Los Angeles Rams fans, sign up HERE to join FanPulse.
Last week, our FanPulse results showed that the Los Angeles Rams fan base feels extremely confident in the trajectory of the team coming out of free agency as well as being, strangely, rather certain that the team got better over the last month.
Today, we get an even stronger piece of evidence of how much fan allegiance can overcome the most unlikeliest of outcomes.
While most sports books aren’t offering many futures on the NFL until after the 2019 NFL Draft, we can expect most if not all to have the Rams as favorites to win the NFC West. But in polling the fan bases from the four NFC West teams (here at TST, Seattle Seahawks fans at Field Gulls, San Francisco 49ers fans at Niners Nation and Arizona Cardinals fans at Revenge of the Birds), only 75% of respondents had the Rams as favorites:
Am I being too much of a homer to think that’s too low?
I’m not saying it’s a certainty the Rams will win the division. We all know anything can happen in the NFL. But sitting at this point for anyone to suggest the Arizona Cardinals are the favorites to win the division is…something.
It’s a good reminder that the passion fans have can often overtake their sensibility. Then again if you needed that reminder, you should probably come hang out in our game threads more often.
