3 games Rams fans should watch Sunday during bye week – Rams Wire

The Los Angeles Rams are off Sunday, finally getting their bye after 11 straight weeks in action. They were hurt by the results of Thursday’s games – namely the Saints’ and Bears’ wins – but they’ll still have a small rooting interest in a couple matchups today.

Here are three games Rams fans should watch in Week 12, beginning with a potential clinching opportunity.

Seahawks vs. Panthers: 1 p.m. ET on FOX

This is the most important game of the day for the Rams and the reason is very simple. If the Seahawks lose, the Rams will be crowned NFC West champions. If they win, Los Angeles will have to wait another week to clinch the division.

The Seahawks have been a tough out all season long and pose a serious threat to the Panthers, even on the road. They’re 3-3 away from home, while the Panthers are returning to Bank of America Stadium after two straight road losses.

The Panthers pose almost no threat to the Rams in the NFC even if they win and move to 7-4, still sitting three games behind Los Angeles, which has the easiest remaining schedule. Rams fans should be rooting for Carolina in this one.

Giants vs. Eagles: 1 p.m. ET on FOX

With both teams nearly out of the playoff race, this one doesn’t have any implications on the Rams’ position in the NFC. Instead, a loss by the Eagles could cost the Rams a primetime game. The two teams are set to play on Sunday Night Football in three weeks, a game many believed would have huge postseason implications before Philly fell apart.

Now, there’s a very real chance the Eagles are eliminated from contention before Week 15 even rolls around, at which point the NFL would love to pull that game from the primetime slot in favor of a more meaningful one. There aren’t many options to replace Rams-Eagles, however, with Chargers-Chiefs on Thursday night and Patriots-Steelers likely protected by CBS in the 4:25 slot. Packers-Bears would be the likeliest option, but Green Bay could be out of it by then, too. Cowboys-Colts is another potential flex pick.

Regardless, fans who want to see the Rams on Sunday night in back-to-back weeks should root for the Eagles.

Packers vs. Vikings: 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC

The Sunday night game is one between two teams fighting for their playoff lives. A win by Green Bay would put both the Packers and Vikings at 5-5-1, making it difficult for either team to make the postseason. If Minnesota wins, it’ll be 6-4-1, giving it a much better chance to reach the big dance. Regardless of the outcome, the bottom of the playoff picture will be impacted.

For the Rams, there isn’t an obvious rooting choice.

You could argue that a Packers win would lead to some chaos for the sixth seed, but a Minnesota victory would all but eliminate Green Bay. Neither team has a legitimate chance to catch the Rams for the No. 2 seed, but Minnesota would likely be the tougher opponent if it were to make the playoffs.
