Rams to meet with Stanford safety Justin Reid – Rams Wire

After drafting John Johnson III in the third round last year and placing the franchise tag on Lamarcus Joyner, the Los Angeles Rams seem set at safety. When healthy, it’s one of the best duos in the NFL with both players ranking among the top-15 safeties in 2017, according to Pro Football Focus.

However, as strong as the tandem is, the Rams are showing a bit of interest in a top draft prospect. Stanford safety Justin Reid, brother of free agent Eric Reid, is planning to meet with the Rams after the Cardinal’s pro day.

After putting on a show at the combine – 4.40 40-yard dash, 6.65-second three-cone drill – Reid has shot up draft boards. He’s projected as a Day 1 or 2 pick with the possibility to go late in the first round.

The Rams would be unwise to spend their first pick on a safety – especially with no second-round selection – but there’s clear interest in one of the draft’s top players at the position.

It’s a stretch, but could the Rams potentially see themselves moving on from Joyner in 2019? Highly unlikely, but with the way they’ve handled the contracts of their best defensive backs in recent years, you shouldn’t rule anything out.

Trumaine Johnson is an example of that.
