The Rams will have a new look for the 2018 season, albeit an old one.
The Los Angeles Rams announced on Friday, at an exclusive Training Camp practice, that they will wear throwback uniforms five times during the 2018 season, as well as their white and navy uniforms four times.
Additionally, the team announced to Season Ticket Holders that they would introduce new uniforms for the 2020 season, coinciding with the opening of their new stadium in Inglewood.
The Rams will wear their white uniforms for the preseason and their first four home games and for then pay tribute to their rich history in Los Angeles with throwback uniforms for the next five games, starting with their Sept. 27 game on Thursday Night Football against the Minnesota Vikings.
“Since returning home to Los Angeles two years ago, we have received a lot of feedback from our fans about their love for these iconic uniforms,” said Los Angeles Rams COO Kevin Demoff. “We appreciate the NFL working with us so we can celebrate even more of the history of Los Angeles Rams football over the next two years as we create our new look that will take us into our new home and the future.”
The Rams throwback uniforms consist of royal blue jerseys with yellow accents, yellow pants with blue and white stripes and blue helmets with yellow horns. It’s the same uniform worn by the Los Angeles Rams from 1973 to 1999 including in their Super Bowl victory that year.
“We’ve been talking to the league about trying to wear our throwbacks more often and with the change to the white and blue,” continued Demoff. “They understood our fans’ request for why we wanted to wear our throwbacks more. They saw the passion, we sent them all the letters, all the discussion from last year and as they went and re-evaluated uniform policy … they considered that this would be a unique request for our organization to allow us to basically swap out the navy jerseys for our classic jerseys, full time.”
The Rams will wear their white uniforms on the road and their color rush uniforms on Oct. 21 against the San Francisco 49ers, and on Nov. 19 against the Kansas City Chiefs in Mexico City.
The Rams debuted the white uniforms in 2016 as a nod to the team’s history in the Los Angeles Coliseum, and re-introduced them for the 2017 season after a fan vote on social media. The uniforms consist of a white-horned navy helmet with a white face mask, white pants with one navy stripe and a white jersey with gold accents.
Demoff did not say what the new uniform design for the 2020 season would be, but said that the team was working on the design with Nike and the NFL.
“We’re working on that design right now with Nike, the NFL and our local design agency,” Demoff said. “But we’re at the very beginning of that process. We haven’t looked at designs, we haven’t looked at colors. We’re still very much in the brand, logo and concept discussions.”
