Losing the Super Bowl is tough. It takes multiple post-season wins, a grueling regular season schedule and luck to make it all the way to the finale.
And sure, Sean McVay rightly shielded his players from blame after the tough loss. What’s more telling though, is the true mastermind behind the team is silent.
Fisher: “I am a huge fan of the Rams players. They’re basically — I don’t want to say my players — but I had a lot to do with that roster. Left them in pretty good shape, and Sean, as he has shown in a short period of time, is an outstanding young coach.”

That’s right – for all the blame we place on Goff missing targets, or Gurley mysteriously vanishing, we have to remember who drafted both of them: Jeff Fisher. He had a lot to do with this roster. They might not be his players, but they’re still kind-of his team.
In fact, this was his game. Think about it, his fingerprints are all over the place:
- A low scoring defensive struggle?
- Relocating the team to Atlanta for Super Bowl practice?
- An offense that is unable to move the ball?
- A strange media fixation on a Rams RB that ends your season?
- Begrudgingly sticking with a gameplan that doesn’t seem to work?
- Post game, being willing to “fix” things?
It’s all there folks. And while Jeff wasn’t even present, it should be clear to everyone that it’s all by design:
“All through it, I was thinking about the best interests of the franchise, not myself”
It’s because Fisher cared so deeply about the team that he let McVay take over – which is why the Rams are where they are. We have him to thank, and ultimately – blame – for what happened.
After all, we can never forget his (albeit two years late) fulfilled promise…
