The Rams had continued success playing on the road in 2018, going 6-2 away from Los Angeles en route to Super Bowl LIII. In 2019, the Rams will hit the road to take on the regulars in the NFC West, the 2018 NFC East Champion Cowboys, as well as the AFC North’s Browns and Steelers and the NFC South’s Panthers and Falcons.
With the NFL’s schedule release containing dates and times still a couple of months away, here’s an early look at the Rams’ 2019 road opponents in no particular order.
Seattle Seahawks
2018 Record: 10-6
2018 Finish: L Wild Card Round
The Rams traveled to Seattle for their first divisional road test of the 2018 season Week 5 and improved to 3-1 in the clubs’ last four meetings at CenturyLink Field. The Rams will look to quiet ‘The 12s’ for a third-straight season in 2019, after the Seahawks finished 6-2 at home in 2018.
The Seahawks lead the all-time series 23-19.
Arizona Cardinals
2018 Record: 3-13
2018 Finish: 4th place, NFC West
The Rams closed out their 2018 regular season road slate with a win in the desert and will look to remain dominant against the familiar NFC West foes in Arizona.
The Rams lead the all-time series against the Cardinals, 43-38-2 and have won the last four in Glendale. Former head coach Steve Wilks’ Cardinals picked up just one win at State Farm Stadium in 2018.
San Francisco 49ers
2018 Record: 4-12
2018 Finish: 3rd place, NFC West
The Rams can knot their all-time series with the 49ers at 69-69-3 with two wins in 2019 and one of those wins will have to come on the road in Santa Clara, Calif.
The Rams beat the 49ers on the road in 2018 in Week 7, against a much different looking version of the Niners than what was billed in the preseason. Head coach Sean McVay’s group improved to 7-0 in the game without Niners quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and a win in 2019 at Levi’s Stadium will mean three in a row in the matchup away from L.A.
Atlanta Falcons
2018 Record: 7-9
2018 Finish: 2nd place, NFC South
The Rams travel back to Atlanta and Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2019 for a regular-season matchup with the Falcons.
The Rams haven’t beat the Falcons in the regular season in four tries dating back to the 2008 season and they haven’t won in Atlanta since the 2001 season. The Falcons went 4-3 at home in 2018, including an overtime loss against the Saints in Week 3.
The two teams most recently met in the Wild Card round of the 2018 postseason in Los Angeles. The Falcons won that game 26-13.
Carolina Panthers
2018 Record: 7-9
2018 Finish: 2nd place, NFC South
The Rams will also look for their first win in Carolina since the club’s 2001 go around against the NFC South. Los Angeles last faced the Panthers in Week 9 of the 2016 season and lost to head coach Ron Rivera’s club 13-10 in the L.A. Memorial Coliseum.
The Panthers went 5-3 as the home team in 2018.
Cleveland Browns
2018 Record: 7-8-1
2018 Finish: 2nd AFC North
The Rams will travel to Cleveland for the first time since moving to Los Angeles in 2016 to take on the Browns.
Second-year quarterback Baker Mayfield and running back Nick Chubb — the former college teammate of L.A. back Todd Gurley — will look to top the defending NFC Champions after going from 0-16 in 2017 to 7-8-1 in 2018.
The Browns went 5-2-1 in front of the home supporters in 2018.
Pittsburgh Steelers
2018 Record: 9-6-1
2018 Finish: 2nd place, AFC North
The Rams will face another unfamiliar opponent out of the AFC North in the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019.
The Steelers won the teams’ previous meeting in St. Louis back in 2015 and will host the Rams after winning four of their last five outings against the back-to-back NFC West Champions.
Dallas Cowboys
2018 Record: 10-6
2018 Finish: L Divisional round
The Rams will head to AT&T Stadium in Dallas for the second time in three seasons to take on the defending NFC East champion Cowboys in 2019.
McVay and company beat the Cowboys in Dallas in 2017 and then bounced quarterback Dak Prescott’s group from the playoffs in the Divisional round in 2018.
The Cowboys played well as the home team in 2018, going 7-1 in the regular season, before beating the Seahawks in the Wild Card game in Dallas.
The Rams and Cowboys all-time series is tied at 17-17.
