Ep. 2019:53 – A Work Stoppage and the L.A. Rams, Plus Tour Lands in New England – ClutchPoints

Derek Ciapala and Michael Stewart continue the 2019 Tour Around the League with the Athletic Boston’s Matt Chatham. They finally get together to discuss Super Bowl LIII and all the changes taking place on the New England Patriots roster. Also, NFLPA president DeMaurice Smith reportedly warned players to prepare for a long work stoppage in 2021. How would that affect the Los Angeles Rams? Also, the Rams signed cornerback Troy Hill to a two-year contract extension. What does that mean for the roster?

Derek and Mike kick off the episode with the Troy Hill extension. What message does this send to the rest of the secondary with Nickell Robey-Coleman the only other Rams cornerback signed for more than one year? Is Hill an insurance policy or are the Rams preparing for him to inherit a starting spot? Is Hill capable of being a solid starting cornerback over a full 16-game season?

The guys discuss the potential ramification of a work stoppage in the second segment. The Rams enter 2019 with a solid core that should compete for at least the NFC West title. How would the prospects of a work stoppage affect the Rams’ plans for the 2020 season and beyond? Mike gives his perspective on labor negotiations as a former player.

Finally, the painful part of the show arrives. Derek sits down with the Athletic Boston’s Matt Chatham to discuss the Rams’ 13-3 loss to the Patriots in the Super Bowl. Then they look at the Patriots’ offseason, Rob Gronkowski’s future Hall of Hame candidacy, and what to expect from the defending Super Bowl Champions next season. All in this episode of Rams Talk Radio.
