As the NFL trade deadline looms, multiple teams have struck deals for players.
The Los Angeles Rams don’t have many holes on the roster though like every other NFL team could shore up depth. Most of these issues fall on the defensive side of the ball, so let’s take a look at some potential players to target in a trade:
Kerry Wynn, DE, New York Giants
The Giants are probably already looking at the draft if we’re being completely honest. Although they’ve got no reason to move Wynn, he isn’t someone they’d have in vice grips either. Wynn is a 27-year old defensive end (fifth season) on a 1-year $1.125m contract. Wynn has 23 tackles with 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble on the season. He could be a buy-low option that could provide a spark on the edge as a good run stuffer with pass rush ability.
Haason Reddick, OLB, Arizona Cardinals
Reddick is a former top-15 selection in the 2017 NFL Draft. Reddick came into the league as a tweener who could play both ILB and OLB/Edge. Reddick has great explosion and athleticism, needing technical refinement to reach his true potential. Jason La Canfora reported recently that Reddick was on the trade block, and the amount of snaps he’s playing likely means he is. Reddick is only 24-years old, has 6.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles in 1.5 seasons. His cap hit for this season is a touch over $3m.
Gareon Conley, CB, Oakland Raiders
Conley is another former first round selection in the 2017 NFL Draft. Conley was recently benched in favor of Daryl Worley. It’s also no secret that Head Coach Jon Gruden isn’t afraid of making a deal. At 23-years old, he has 7 pass deflections with one interception and one touchdown in 1.5 years (majority coming this year). Conley is a technically advanced player who many loved coming out of the draft so he could absolutely be worth a gamble and at worst can provide good depth at CB. His cap hit this year is $3m.
Lorenzo Alexander, OLB, Buffalo Bills
Alexander is unlike the rest here in the sense that he is a true veteran of the game at 35-years old. For many years Alexander was a journeyman bouncing from team-to-team in the league. Enjoying a late-career revival, Alexander is playing the best ball he’s ever put on tape. In the past three seasons Alexander has accumulated 18 sacks with 12 pass deflections, two interceptions, and six forced fumbles. The Bills may be reluctant to trade him as he is a team captain and on a great contract at $3.6m this year, but they aren’t very good so there is a possibility he is available.
Shane Ray, OLB, Denver Broncos
Well this one just kind of makes sense, doesn’t it? The logical connection here is that Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips coached Ray in Denver, so there is some sort of bridge that exists. Ray is a former first-round selection in the 2015 NFL Draft. His career has been largely overshadowed by way of injury as Ray has only played 16 games once in 2016. Even then, Ray has accumulated 14 sacks, two pass deflections, and two forced fumbles in 3.5 years. Ray would essentially be a one-year rental with a cap hit of $2.9m this year as his fifth-year option was declined by Denver.
