At some point in time, over the course of their viewership and having consumed many wings and beers, NFL fans become experts. For some this happens right away, and for others it may take some time. But there comes a time where every NFL fan gains bonafide armchair GM status.

The GMFB crew, over at NFL Network, is putting that to the test this morning with a very simple question: if you were building an NFL franchise around one player under the age of 30, who would it be?

If you’re a Los Angeles Rams’ fan, or at least a fan of their star players, surely you’ve got options.

For starters, there’s quarterback Jared Goff (age: 23). After a horrendous start to his NFL career, under the losing-est head coach in NFL history, the Rams’ signal caller bounced back nicely in 2017, earning himself Pro Bowl honors in year two. As the most important position in the entire sport, certainly he’d be a consideration.

Todd Gurley (age: 24) entered the league in 2015, put up incredible numbers for a rookie, and earned ROTY honors. That was nothing compared to his 2017 campaign, where he single-handedly put up over 2,000 yards of offense (1,305 rushing, 788 receiving) with 19 total touchdowns, on his way to being named the Offensive Player of the Year.

Aaron Donald (age: 27) – who may become the highest paid defensive player in NFL history as early as today – is the easy choice on defense. As the best defensive player in football, his resumé speaks for itself so I won’t bore you with the details.

But, setting “homer” status aside, there are 31 other teams to pick potential cornerstone pieces from. 30 years of age typically marks the wrong or right “side of the hill” for NFL players, so there are bound to be dozens of viable options if we’re looking at the under.
