LA Rams sign LB Josh Carraway – Turf Show Times

After releasing S Blake Countess, the Los Angeles Rams have filled his roster spot by signing free agent LB Josh Carraway, per the Rams themselves:

Carraway was a former seventh-round pick by the Tenneessee Titans in the 2017 NFL Draft. He spent majority of the 2017 season on the practice squad, though he also registered some time on the 53-man active roster. Carraway spent 2018 with the Washington Redskins’ practice squad.

Carraway is a 6’3” and 242 lb linebacker who’s played sparingly in preseason action, though he adds another camp body for the Rams who were thin at inside linebacker. Prior to this addition, the Rams only had Cory Littleton, Micah Kiser, Travin Howard, and Dakota Allen on the roster (by way of draft picks), so Carraway has a shot to create a spot for himself with a strong offseason.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein had this to say about Carraway’s strengths when he came into the league in 2017:

Outstanding athlete. Explosive with plenty of twitch. Has sudden, bouncy feet. Plus range as tackler. Possesses speed to win foot race down the line as a backside chaser when unblocked. Fluid hips and good acceleration to leverage wide, flowing runs to the sideline. Gets maximum arm extension when landing the early punch. Intriguing pass rusher. Has an NFL-level burst upfield. Flexibility creates ability to dip and corner the edge sharply. Has breathtaking closing burst to the quarterback as a rusher. Flashes of hand fighting provide hope for improvement. Transitioned from strong side to open side as a senior with no issues.

Best of luck, Josh. Special Teams Coach John Fassel will be his key to making the roster.
