Best Overreaction:
The defense for the Los Angeles Rams was so good that all cause for concern is in the past
First off, you should always remain concerned about everything. We live in a crazy world and once you get complacent, well, that’s when life kicks you in the painful parts. But that’s besides the point, which is: DE Aaron Donald, LB Cory Littleton, and S John Johnson III played like leaders of the defense, putting together an epic victory that felt like a “team win.” Yes, Donald was a monster with his four sacks and fumble recovery, but if CB Troy Hill can make you believe a massive improvement has been made, then well, I’m a believer. Coach Wade Phillips did a fine job with the defense, shutting down the San Francisco 49ers. And for those who might bring up the fact that the Niners played like garbage, well, that’s why this is an overreaction. If the D can deliver the same level of destruction on the Green Bay Packers, then I might feel more confident in my declaration that the Rams defense is elite.
Worst Overreaction:
The Rams didn’t miss WR Cooper Kupp since they put up 39 points
The Rams’ offense is pretty high-powered, so it’s difficult to argue that a slot receiver’s absence is going to make or break their efforts to make plays. However, WR Nick Williams is not Cooper Kupp and no one is expecting him to be. But the Rams’ offense uses Kupp so well, especially in the middle of the field, which allows WR Brandin Cooks and WR Robert Woods to cash in on the attention that defenders need to pay to Kupp. And a lot of the great field position that the Rams got on Sunday’s game was due to the excellent special teams’ unit — so yes, the offense had a good day, but the stats would have been higher with Cooper Kupp on the field. Simply put: the Rams are always better with Cooper Kupp suited up and ready to play.
