McVay family connection to the last time LA Rams were in NFC Championship – Touchdown Wire

The Los Angeles Rams will play in the NFC Championship Game on Jan. 20. This marks the first time the Rams of Los Angeles will play in the NFC title contest since Jan. 14, 1990. There is a family connection between this Rams team and the team Los Angeles faced in 1990

The Rams are coached by Sean McVay, who is 32 years old. That 1990 day Sean McVay was all of four years old. However, the McVay family came out on the winning side of the San Francisco 49ers’ 30-3 waltz at Candlestick Park.

That’s because John McVay, Sean’s grandfather, was a vice president of the Niners team that went on to win the Super Bowl. John McVay was an architect of the Niners’ dynasty. That season, they won three playoff games by a collective score of 126-26.

It would seem Sean McVay has picked up some of his grandfather’s football genius.
