Despite playing a relatively new position, Michael Brockers had arguably the best season of his career in 2017. He transitioned to 3-4 defensive end after playing mostly defensive tackle in a 4-3 front, managing to rack up 4.5 sacks and a career-high 55 tackles.
He became a fan favorite because of his willingness to switch positions for the better of his team, and his play was absolutely fun to watch. That’s what made his cryptic Instagram post Thursday freak out over the thought that he had been traded, released or was retiring early.
Just look at some of the comments on his post.
The panic extended to Twitter, too, with Rams fans believing he wouldn’t be on the team next season.
About six hours after he posted the photo with that cryptic caption, Brockers clarified with a follow-up. He noticed the outrage and concern from Rams fans and felt he had to add some context.
As it turns out, Brockers isn’t going anywhere. He just misses football like the rest of us.
There were obvious worries that he had been cut or traded, but the more likely meaning behind the caption has to do with the Coliseum. The stadium is undergoing renovations, including the remodeling of the tunnels that players run out of. Perhaps that’s what Brockers will miss.
Either way, there’s no need to panic.
