Tennessee Titans announced on Thursday that they plan to release former NFL Offensive Player of the Year DeMarco Murray. The writing had been on the wall some time here with youngster Derrick Henry taking on a more important role as the 2017 season drew to a conclusion. Murray, 30, came with a relatively lofty $6.5 million cap hit for next season. Tennessee has been looking to make Henry its featured back, and this move does just that.

After he put up nearly 2,600 total yards and 19 touchdowns in two seasons with the Titans, we can expect a pretty decent market for Murray’s services in free agency. But at 30 years old, any deal he receives will likely be of the short-term variety.
The Los Angeles Rams remain very active on the trade market heading into free agency. That didn’t change on Thursday with the reported acquisition of five-time Pro Bowl cornerback Aqib Talib from the Denver Broncos in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. The 32-year-old Talib has earned a Pro Bowl appearance in each of the past five seasons. He’s racked up 63 passes defended and 15 interceptions during that span.
This trade comes on the heels of Los Angeles picking up fellow Pro Bowl corner Marcus Peters in a blockbuster trade with the Kansas City Chiefs last month. It’s a clear indication that the Rams are going all in after earning a surprise NFC West title in 2017. It also means that former No. 1 cornerback Trumaine Johnson will be moving on in free agency next week.
In another interesting move by the Rams on Thursday, they announced the signing of veteran cornerback Sam Shields — formerly of the Green Bay Packers. The seven-year NFL played in just one game over the past two seasons after suffering multiple concussions during his time with the Packers. Prior to 2016, he started 40 of a possible 48 games with Green Bay over the previous three seasons, recording 145 tackles, 41 passes defended and nine interceptions.
Recently released by the New York Jets, former Pro Bowl defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson just finished up a two-day visit with the Green Bay Packers. While it doesn’t mean that he has completely ruled the Packers out, Wilkerson left Green Bay without a deal. He’s slated to meet with the New Orleans Saints next.
Wilkerson, 28, fell out of favor big time with the Jets this past season, ultimately seeing himself released less 20 months after signing a five-year, $86 million extension with the team. A strong force against both the pass and the rush, there’s obviously a strong market for this enigmatic defensive lineman.
