Rams only team to sit out free agency, eye compensatory picks again – Rams Wire

The Los Angeles Rams earned two third-round compensatory picks in the 2019 NFL draft and they’re on track to get a few more next year, too. For the second straight year, the team has essentially sat out free agency, watching big-name players sign elsewhere – including many of their own.

They didn’t sign a single free agent who would qualify for the compensatory pick formula last year, only bringing in Ramik Wilson on a cheap one-year contract. It’s been much of the same in 2019 with Los Angeles only signing Eric Weddle – who was released by the Ravens – and retaining Dante Fowler Jr.

The Rams are the only team in the NFL not to sign a free agent who qualifies for a compensatory pick this year, a fact that also dates back to 2018.

Right now, the Rams are in line to receive two fourth-round picks in the 2020 draft, according to Over The Cap. Those come from the losses of Lamarcus Joyner and Rodger Saffold, who signed with the Raiders and Titans, respectively.

Ndamukong Suh is also on his way out of L.A., likely netting the Rams at least a fifth-round compensatory pick. Los Angeles loves playing the compensatory pick game, often targeting players who were cut by other teams, considering they don’t affect the formula.
