The world has always been fascinated by superstar athletes trying to master more than one sport. The effort is usually is loaded with skepticism (Michael Jordan and Tim Tebow), but when it works (Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders) the fans can’t get enough.
Smart money says that the “Money Fight” between Floyd Mayweather, Jr., and Conor McGregor will not be much of a fight as McGregor is likely going to be outmatched in an embarrassing way.
So, just for fun, let’s say Los Angeles Rams Owner Stan Kroenke decided to have tryouts for the other sports teams he owns. Which players on the Rams have a chance to make the transition to a new sport?
TE Gerald Everett – Shooting Guard for the Denver Nuggets
At 6’3”, Everett has the size and athleticism to make it on the hardcourt. In fact, he started out as a basketball player in high school playing for three years before putting on a football helmet in his senior year.
WR Tavon Austin – Forward for Arsenal
What’s helpful for a guy like Tavon Austin for his hypothetical transition to soccer is that size would not be as important as it is in American football. Austin’s electric speed could translate well on the pitch. There’s a lot of Rams fans that are pushing for Austin to be traded. Maybe this is the answer.
OLB Connor Barwin – Defenseman (Enforcer) for the Colorado Avalanche
Connor Barwin has inflicted some pretty vicious hits in his time in the NFL and his size makes for a perfect opportunity to transform him into a wicked enforcer. Maybe it’s the hair, but I could totally see Barwin being the bad boy of the NHL.
K Greg Zuerlein – Forward for the Colorado Rapids
I’d be remiss if I didn’t include Legatron on a soccer team, and what better league than Major League Soccer? I doubt that that ‘ol Greg has the athletic skills to compete in the Premier league, but playing in the States with mostly American players? Well, he has the foot for it.
So, there you have it. I feel like if we opened it up a bit, Jared Goff has a chance to play third base and Aaron Donald would be a great first baseman slugger in the mold of Prince Fielder. And when you think about it, if you’re athletic enough to play in the NFL, you most likely are pretty talented at other sports as well. So, the sky’s the limit.
