How Rams can clinch NFC West on Sunday despite not playing – Rams Wire

For the first time since August, the Los Angeles Rams won’t be in action this weekend. They’ve finally reached their bye week after playing what was supposed to be an international game in Week 11, a much-needed and deserved break for Sean McVay’s squad.

Even though they won’t be on the field in Week 12, the Rams can still exit Sunday as NFC West champions. It won’t take much for that to happen, either. There isn’t some convoluted clinching scenario involving four different games, two of which have to end in ties.

Nope, it couldn’t be simpler. If the Seahawks lose to the Panthers at 1 p.m. ET, the Rams will win the division while watching at home. That’s all it takes.

The Rams could’ve clinched last week against the Chiefs, and they did their part to make it happen. Unfortunately, the Seahawks beat the Packers, which prevented Los Angeles from being crowned division champions. Had the Rams clinched, they would’ve joined the 1985 Bears as the only other team to clinch its division as early as Week 11.

Winning the West is merely a formality at this point, but getting it out of the way on Sunday would be great.

“I think that would be pretty cool,” Sean McVay said last week. “We can only control what we can control, but I wouldn’t be upset if the Panthers came away with a big win this weekend.”
